Botox Cosmetic and Dysport For Overdeveloped Masseter Muscle
It is not uncommon for our patients to inquire about Botox Cosmetic or Dysport for reducing the size of the masseter muscle. So what is the masseter muscle? In simple terms, the masseter muscle is responsible for closing the jaw during actions such as chewing. There are several factors that may contribute to a person having an overdeveloped masseter muscle. For example, a prominent masseter muscle can result from excessive teeth grinding. Many people don’t realize that they are grinding their teeth at night but it can, unfortunately, lead to jaw discomfort or even TMJ.
Fortunately, Botox Cosmetic and Dysport are used in some practices to weaken those “jaw-clenching” muscles. Only with repeat injections every 3 to 4 months can patients use neurotoxins as a way to reduce the size of the masseter. Many patients in our practice are not particularly focused on diminishing jaw clenching, but are bothered by the enlarged lower third of their face. Not everybody desires the square jaw look! These patient are seeking a way to slim the lower third of the face for a softer and more feminine appearance.
Using this technique to slim the masseter muscles originated in Asia and has become quite popular in that region. We’re happy to offer Botox Cosmetic or Dysport here in Pittsburgh to address enlarged masseter muscles.
