What To Expect At Your 1 Week Post-Op Rhinoplasty Appointment
Anticipation before a post-operative appointment is not unusual but our goal is to inform you of what to expect afterwards during the initial consultation as well as any pre-op office visits!
After Rhinoplasty in Pittsburgh surgery, patients are to return for a 1 week post-operative appointment. At this appointment, patients can expect for both the external splint and nasal tubes to be removed. Patients often feel an immediate sense of pressure relief as well as possible improved breathing through their nose once these splints are removed. In the past, nasal packing was used after Rhinoplasty surgery which was known to be very painful for patients during the removal process. Fortunately, Dr. Leong does not use the packing method and prefer to place plastic tubes for the necessary support after surgery instead. These only take about 10 seconds to remove from each nasal passageway and cause mild to no discomfort for the patient.
Furthermore, Dr. Leong and the patient will also assess the nose at this point. Most patients are under the impression that they will see the final result at the 7 days post-op mark, however, this is not the case at all. It is important to remember that the healing process can take up to 12 months. During the early stages of recovery, a decent amount of swelling will be noted but much of it is likely to diminish over the course of a few months. It is possible that any bruising that occurred could take up to 2 weeks or more to subside.
