It’s your face. Trust it to a specialist.
The absence of a prominent chin can affect your jawline and overall facial harmony. Individuals without a well integrated, prominent chin can opt to place synthetic implants around the chin bone, thereby bringing the jawline into sharp relief. When placed correctly, chin implants can transform a recessed chin and give patients in Pittsburgh an angular, chiseled jawline.
At Leong Facial Plastic Surgery, our exceptionally talented and board-certified facial plastic surgeon, Dr. Paul Leong, carefully examines your chin to recommend the ideal implant options. He has a keen sense of facial anatomy and aesthetic perfection, and he uses those insights to provide results that ensure optimal facial harmony.
What are chin implants?
Chin implants are synthetic implants placed around the chin bone to enhance the appearance of the chin. They’re made of a safe, biocompatible, and malleable material that can be easily adjusted and shaped according to your unique facial anatomy and structure. Chin implants are one of the most effective means of augmenting your chin and jawline to achieve the exact shape you desire.
Chin implants are usually made of silicone, but vary in size and contours. Dr. Leong will choose the best implant size and shape to provide the necessary corrections for the most natural results possible. Once they’re in place, they’ll feel indistinguishable from your actual chin bone. Chin implants are a permanent treatment for recessed chins.
What do chin implants do?
- Make the chin appear prominent and proportional
- Ensure overall facial harmony
- Correct recessed chin
- Improve overall jawline
- Reduce the appearance of a double chin
Am I a suitable candidate for chin implants?
You’re very likely a suitable candidate for chin implants in Pittsburgh if you have a weak or recessed chin, despite the complete development and maturation of your facial anatomy. However, you should be in generally good physical and mental health for the procedure and have realistic expectations. You should also avoid chin implant surgery if you’re currently pregnant or nursing.
Dr. Leong will carefully review your medical history and discuss your current and past medications during the consultation. Based on the information, he’ll determine if you’re a viable candidate for the procedure. He’ll also ask you to stop smoking a month before the procedure, stop taking blood-thinning medications, and to avoid alcohol for at least two days leading up to the procedure.
What happens after the chin implants procedure?
You might experience some swelling, redness, bruising, and discomfort around the treatment area for a few days. You’ll wear the chin strap for up to 3 days, following which it can be taken off. You’ll be on a liquid diet for a week, and will be asked to minimize jaw and chin movements. You can resume most of your normal activities after a week.
The results from the procedure will be immediately evident, but you’ll truly appreciate the outcome after about a month, once the swelling, redness, and bruising have completely dissipated. The final results appear in approximately 3 months, at which point the implants would have settled perfectly in place.
