Belotero® is an exceptionally soft and smooth facial filler and therefore is very unlikely to cause bumps or lumps even when injected very superficially for the purpose of addressing fine lines. Because it is possible to inject Belotero® Balance so superficially, it works in a similar way as collagen injections were used years ago – to efface or smooth lines and wrinkles.
Another advantage of Belotero® is that it has been designed to avoid the Tyndall effect. The Tyndall effect is the appearance of a faint blue color under the skin when other cosmetic fillers are injected just under the skin. Belotero® does not cause this problem.
Belotero® is an innovative dermal filler used to provide a temporary solution for bothersome sigs of aging. Belotero® was FDA approved in 2011 and is used to temporarily treat severe to moderate folds, smile lines, lip lines, marionette lines, and lines at the corner of the mouth.
Belotero® can also be used to fill in hollowness or darkness (see Tear Trough Deformity) underneath the eye and increase volume in the face.

Results occur immediately. Belotero® usually lasts around 6 months depending upon the area being treated.
Treatment normally takes about 20-30 minutes, with little pain. Most patients report a slight pinch when the needle punctures the skin, creating an opening for the microcannula. A microcannula is a rounded tip needle that is used to precisely and comfortably dispense the filler. Microcannulas reduce the risk of bruising and swelling. Dr. Leong is one of the first doctors in the Pittsburgh area to offer filler injections using the microcannula technique.
