The History of Restylane®

Hyaluronic acid, a natural ingredient located in the dermis (middle layer of the skin), aids in the preservation of water. When the skin is able to retain more water, the result is fuller, healthier and younger looking skin. Restylane® is one of the most researched fillers on the market and is considered safe and effective when administered by an experienced injector.

How does Restylane® work?

Restylane® is composed of hyaluronic acid – a natural substance in the body that acts as a cushion or lubricant. Restylane® works by stimulating the growth of collagen and adding fullness and volume to folds and wrinkles.

This clear gel formula is injected into creases and wrinkles and works immediately by bringing water and fullness to the surface.

What instructions should I follow after Restylane treatment?

Approximately 6 hours after treatment, Dr. Leong suggests avoiding alcohol, exercise and touching the treated area. If there is redness or swelling, avoid sun exposure, UV lamps and extreme cold. Dr. Leong also recommends that you stop taking the following one week prior and one week after treatment to reduce the chance of bleeding and bruising:

Aspirin
Non-steroidal, anti-inflammatory medications
St. John’s Wort
Fish oil
High doses of Vitamin E

A good candidate for Restylane® is someone in good health who is wanting to correct wrinkles above the lip, reduce marionette lines, smile/laugh lines, tear trough deformity, or wishes to volumize lips.
